How to summarize a long PDF without losing key points

Select and copy one sentence from the document. If nothing selects, the pages are scanned images and need text recognition first — without that step any summary comes back empty or invented.

Ask for an outline first: sections with their page ranges. Check the ranges against the file (covers and tables of contents shift numbering) and fix them before going deeper.

Work through one coherent section at a time instead of asking for the whole document at once. Short section summaries preserve the argument's shape; a single global pass quietly drops the middle.

Build the short top-level summary from the section summaries, bottom-up. Then probe what was left out — the points dropped from the overview are often the ones worth a second look.

Each summary line should point back to a page or passage you can open. Read every number in the original before quoting it, and if one page reference is off, treat the whole summary as untrusted until rechecked.

Export the summary to Word or PDF, reopen the file, and confirm the page references still line up with the original document before sharing or submitting.
